It is her source of refuge
It’s a place to get away
When all the world seems mean
And she can’t help but hate
It now become her hiding place
It’s a place to get away
When her problems seem too hard
And she can’t face the day
It has become her constant
Something that stays the same
It creates for her stability
In a world that’s set on change
She can now feel in charge
It gives her some control
It’s actually to her a sense of strength
In our little mixed up, crazy world
It helps her with emotions
When she doesn’t know what to say
It seems quite easy to her really
She can throw the feelings away
It’s also her source of guilt
There’s not much to say
But it’s hard to break the habit
Of something you do everyday
So what is this thing
Her refuge, her hiding place
Her constant, and her strength?
What is this thing that rules her life
And causes all this pain?
Behind the closed door
With the lock securely fastened
She takes a slow breath and kneels down
To get into position
The finger moves upward
Slowly to her throat
It then goes down and inward
She feels as if she’s choked
The contents from her stomach
Move up and out of her mouth
She coughs and takes deep breaths
Clearing her poor throat out
She cries in agony
She cries in pain
What is this terrible awful thing
That doesn’t seem to go away
She makes a promise to herself
The pain has only just begun
She silently stops and promises
That this behavior is finally done
She doesn’t see what it takes
She doesn’t see the pain
She only knows that she hates it
And all that she has to gain
Her promise holds true for a while
But slowly it dies away
For a promise is not nearly enough
When bad things happen to her these days
So finally she cries and prays
“Father, I am sorry! Please forgive me on this day.”
“Please love me and help me, Dear Lord!”
“Please take my pain away!”
These words came from her heart
But now her prayer is done
She’s truly repented and desires God’s help
The story’s only just begun
He’s her source of refuge
He’s her place to get away
When all the world seems mean
And she can’t help but hate

In our little mixed up, crazy world
He helps her with emotions
When she doesn’t know what to say
He offers her some genuine peace
About her problems of today
He is her source of refuge
He is her hiding place
He’s her constant, in control
He’s all she ever needs
Behind the closed door
With a smile on her face
She takes a breath and kneels down
Ready to give praise
The hands move upward together
She looks down toward the ground
“Thank you, Father, thank You,
For always being around.”
“Thank you for the love you give.
Thank you for your way.
Thank you for the life you lived
So that I may live today."
